The story of Winston

- a stray who was about to be written off

The Winston's Story

IMG_8856.jpg

The story begins with Winston — a stray who wandered into our front yard one early February morning. He was bruised, bloody, and covered in what looked like stab wounds. We weren’t sure he would make it. But we cleaned him up and treated his injuries.

Then the real challenges started a month later. Even though his stab wounds healed, Winston's painful non-healing wounds on his paws didn't seem to heal. His severe skin rash also would not go away, he shed constantly, and nothing worked. After several vet visits, we learned Winston had severe environmental and food allergies, and his body couldn’t properly break down most proteins.

The question was no longer “What should we feed him?”
It was “What is his body capable of using?”

We tried prescription diets, medications, and every so-called miracle cure the internet could offer. Other than steroids (and the side effects that came with them), nothing made a difference.

Originally, we planned to help Winston recover and then find him a home.
But our two dogs had other ideas. They bonded with him instantly — sleeping beside him, watching over him, making him part of the family.  And that was that. Winston stayed.

Later, we found out he was deaf. Maybe someone once thought he was stubborn or disobedient.
But misunderstanding a dog is never an excuse for cruelty.

And that was that. Winston stayed.

Later, we found out he was deaf. Maybe someone once thought he was stubborn or disobedient.
But misunderstanding a dog is never an excuse for cruelty.

So we rolled up our sleeves and started researching.
We tested ingredients. We cooked. We observed. We adjusted. And after many rounds of trial-and-error, we found a meal Winston’s body could finally tolerate — and thrive on.  For him, that meant lean turkey paired with fresh, whole vegetables that provide naturally occurring nutrients — no powders, no filler, no mystery additives.

Slowly, the changes came:

  • His skin began to heal

  • His energy returned

  • His weight stabilized

  • His medical checkups improved

This wasn’t a miracle cure. Winston still takes medication and still has occasional flare-ups. But clean, fresh eating gave him something he never had before: A fighting chance. And that changed everything for us.

Because if clean, simple, real food could do this for Winston — maybe it could help others too.

That’s where Two Zaddies began. In our kitchen.  With one dog who deserved better. We’re here to give every pup that same chance.

Real food. Real ingredients. Real care.

Winston’s story doesn’t end here. We will continue improving Winston's recipe, refining our products, and learning from every dog we meet — because we’re not just trying to make food.

We’re trying to make things better — for Winston, and for every dog out there who deserves the chance to live comfortably in their own skin.

Why We Do What We Do

Two Zaddies was built on the belief that dogs deserve better — better ingredients, better nutrition, better care. We cook with intention, we source with honesty, and we feed with love. Not perfection. Not promises of magic. Just real food that supports real health.

This is not a trend, a gimmick, or a marketing angle. It’s personal. It started with Winston.
And it continues with every pup who deserves the chance to feel good in their body again.
